Wolf hunts permitted in the Rockies

Conservation groups like the Alliance for the Wild Rockies have requested that Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals halt wolf hunting in the Northern Rockies. I wasn’t aware of this, but Congress recently stripped their protection under the Endangered Species Act. Hunters hope to control the population which is estimated to be between 1,300 and 1,600.

According to a Reuters article, the states have issued almost 37,000 permits. Alliance leader Michael Garrity believes this could lead to “slaughter.” The court promised to revisit the issue in November. I have heard a lot about wolf attacks on livestock recently, which is probably the strongest contributing factor in issuing so many permits.

What do you think? Is it our responsibility to control nature or do we just let it run its course?
