Idaho is one of the five best states to be an animal abuser, but the group “Idaho 1 of 3” is trying to change that. Currently, it is not a felony if a person is charged with multiple counts of cruelty to animals. The “1 of 3” group is working to get an initiative on the ballot that would have more severe consequences for those found guilty more than once.
They are also working to include a definition for torture. They define it in the initiative as follows:
“(15) “Torture” means every act, omission or commission whereby the willful and malicious infliction of pain or suffering is caused, permitted or allowed to continue when there is a reasonable remedy or relief.”
Click here to see the initiative in its entirety. They also want to see increased fines for misdemeanor violations. I don’t mind living in a state that is largely known for potatoes. In fact, it’s great. I just don’t want to live in a state where animal abuse is overlooked or okay. If you are a registered Idaho voter you can sign up to distribute the petition. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for it on the November 2012 ballot.
